Waiting on Wednesday: For a Muse of Fire

For A Muse of Fire CoverAuthor: Heidi Heilig

Release Date: September 25, 2018

Publisher: Greenwillow Books

Genre(s): Young adult, action, romance, fantasy, adventure, political intrigue, magic, epic.

A young woman with a dangerous power she barely understands. A smuggler with secrets of his own. A country torn between a merciless colonial army, a terrifying tyrant, and a feared rebel leader.

Jetta’s family is famed as the most talented troupe of shadow players in the land. With Jetta behind the scrim, their puppets seem to move without string or stick—a trade secret, they say. In truth, Jetta can see the souls of the recently departed and bind them to the puppets with her blood.

But ever since the colonizing army conquered their country, the old ways are forbidden, so Jetta must never show, never tell. Her skill and fame are her family’s way to earn a spot aboard the royal ship to Aquitan, where shadow plays are the latest rage, and where rumor has it the Mad Emperor has a spring that cures his ills—and could cure Jetta’s, too. Because seeing spirits is not the only thing that plagues her.

But as rebellion seethes and as Jetta meets a young smuggler, she will face truths and decisions that she never imagined—and safety will never seem so far away.

Why I’m excited for this book:

What initially drew me to this book was the magic system; Jetta being able to see, manipulate and bind souls? So cool. I think shadow plays are a lost art and I am so happy to see that they are a part of this book. I really like how in the synopsis you can’t really tell who the good guys are supposed to be other than Jetta. The colonizing army doesn’t sound like they’re a great force, the rebels are feared and at the head of the Empire is a Mad King. That kind of ambiguity just makes me want to know more! I can’t wait to learn more about Jetta, the illness that plagues her, the young smuggler who Jetta meets and the rebellion that is in the way. I love the title as well, I love the ideas that Jetta is a muse of fire. AND THAT COVER?!?! It is so beautiful and badass and is absolutely perfect for the story.
